Jim Thompson and Scott Riddell celebrate victory

Scotland will face Argentina in the semi-final of the Emirates Airline Edinburgh Sevens Bowl after beating Hong Kong Bowl winners, Canada (26-14) at Murrayfield.

The hosts dominated the first-half, with Jim Thompson’s fourth minute try coming without a Canadian hand touching the ball.

However Scotland’s possession was not converted fully into points and, with Canada’s equaliser converted, it was Canada who took the lead into the break after Philip Mack converted a late Mike Scholtz score.

HALF TIME: 5-7

Scotland were a different beast in the second-half with flashes of yesterday’s 45-7 win over USA returning to the home of Scottish rugby.

Thompson continued his fine form with a second score, repeating his defence-splitting running style to put Scotland back in the lead.

Andrew Skeen converted before returning as the perfect conduit for Scotland’s second score of the half – the Longridge Towers teacher received the ball on a lovely angle at pace to make the 5m line and offered a fine offload to Colin Gregor who dived to catch the ball mid air and score.

Skeen converted and Scotland were looking comfortable (19-7) before Michael Fedo confirmed the victory with another try.

Struan Dewar made a fine break and while he had the space and pace to score himself, he passed inside to Fedo to score unchallenged.

Skeen added the conversion before Canada crossed for a late consolation score from Scholtz before Mack added the conversion to end the tie.

FULL TIME: 26-14
